How Much Does Therapy or Psychiatry Cost With Michigan Medicaid?

For most Michigan Medicaid members, therapy and psychiatry visits at Clearview cost $0. The Michigan Medicaid health plans we accept do not charge copays for covered outpatient mental health visits, and there's no deductible to meet first.

That's true for Healthy Michigan Plan members too. Michigan reduced most Healthy Michigan Plan cost-sharing in 2024 and ended the MI Health Account billing system that used to send members a statement after the fact. Your Medicaid plan covers services we offer, including therapy sessions, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and follow-up visits. If your specific plan or situation involves any cost, we'll tell you before your first appointment. You can also see how Medicaid coverage works at Clearview across all three states.

Mental Health Care for Medicaid Anywhere in Michigan

More than 4.2 million Michigan residents live in areas the federal government designates as having a shortage of mental health professionals. Only 15 of Michigan's 83 counties have a provider-to-population ratio better than the state average. For Medicaid members, that usually means long waits or long drives. Virtual care removes both: Clearview offers the same providers and same-week appointments whether you're in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Kalamazoo, or a town hours from the nearest clinic.

The shortage is hardest on rural and northern Michigan, where the nearest in-person Medicaid psychiatric provider can be a long drive away if that provider is taking new patients at all. If you have a Michigan Medicaid card, a phone or laptop, and an internet connection, you can be seen this week. Clearview also serves Medicaid members in Ohio and North Carolina.
