How Much Does Therapy or Psychiatry Cost With North Carolina Medicaid?

For most North Carolina Medicaid members, therapy and psychiatry visits at Clearview cost $0. North Carolina specifically exempts behavioral health services from Medicaid copays, so while some NC Medicaid services carry a small copay, therapy and psychiatry are not among them. There's no deductible to meet and no bill after your visit.

That's true whether you're on a standard plan or a Behavioral Health Tailored Plan, and it covers services we offer, including therapy sessions, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and follow-up visits. If your specific plan handles anything differently, we'll tell you before your first appointment, not after. You can also see how Medicaid coverage works at Clearview across all three states.

Can I See a Psychiatrist Who Takes Medicaid in North Carolina?

Yes, psychiatric care at Clearview is provided by board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) who evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medication when clinically appropriate. Psychiatric care is covered by every NC Medicaid plan we accept, including for Behavioral Health Tailored Plans.

Psychiatric care starts with a full evaluation of your history, symptoms, and goals, followed by a treatment plan you build together. Our psychiatry providers treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other conditions, with regular follow-ups to adjust your plan as things change. Everything happens over secure video, using your NC Medicaid coverage.

Clearview offers same-week psychiatry appointments with no waitlist, and you don't need a referral to book an evaluation anywhere in North Carolina.

Mental Health Care for Medicaid Anywhere in North Carolina

In 97 of North Carolina's 100 counties, there aren't enough mental health providers to meet demand. By the state's own estimate, the current workforce meets only 13 percent of the need, and Medicaid members feel that shortage most. Because Clearview is 100% virtual, none of that geography applies to you: you get the same providers and same-week appointments whether you're in Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Asheville, or Wilmington, or a county where no in-person provider is taking Medicaid at all.

The shortage hits hardest in rural North Carolina, from the western mountains to the eastern coastal plain, where some counties have no Medicaid-enrolled psychiatric prescriber. If you have an NC Medicaid card, a phone or laptop, and an internet connection, you can be seen this week. Clearview also serves Medicaid members in Ohio and Michigan.
